My whole family leaves church talking about it. First, I just want to say how excited i am to be able to hear preaching about the Holy Spirit. But some of it is just really directed to you and then i gave my own commentsвЂ¦ And then there is another comment just for you at the end. What do you think? To what extent might the natural manВ be so tuned in to the spirit of the world that we are unable to pick up the Holy SpiritвЂ™s signals within us? We wll know how to tune our radios so that we pick up the station we want how do we go about tuning in the spirit so that we can pick up the leading of the Holy Spirit? Maybe it is becauseВ while their spirit has been turned on, they have not yet learned to adjust their antenna so they can pick up what the Holy Spirit is saying. Others have been reborn spiritually, but still seem unable to discern the things of God. So are we being ledВ by the Spirit ? If not, why not? Obviously, some are unable to be led by the Spirit of God because their ownВ spiritВ is still deadВ and unable toВ respondВ to GodвЂ™s Spirit. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. As it says in 1 Corinthians 2:11-12ДЇor who knows a personвЂ™s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Our spirit must be not only alive (or turned on), but also tuned in to hear the SpiritвЂ™s voice. Those who have not been born of the spirit are spiritually dead and are unable to hear the leading of the Spirit of God. The things of God are perceived spiritually. The reason I find this text helpful is because it describes different kinds of insight in different means of perception. ThatвЂ™s why I have entitled this the Conversations With God blog site, because that is our first concern. ItвЂ™s so important that you listen to the text of GodвЂ™s Word, so that you can evaluate my comments or the comments of others. And if you havenвЂ™t read that yet, I hope you will do that now before going on to read my comments. This text in 1Corinthians chapter 2, I think, is quite helpful for us. In addition Jesus says that when the Father sends the Spirit, that the вЂњworld cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him.вЂќ Then He says, вЂњyou know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.вЂќ (John 14:16-17 ESV) So why do so many Christians find it hard to distinguish the leading of the Holy Spirit from the rest of the advice we may receive, or from our own desires or inclinations? In John 16 Jesus makes it clear that it is to our advantage that he ascends to the right hand of the Father, because he will send the indwelling Holy Spirit who is with us and in us.
